Head of Preclinical Oncology

Reporting to the Senior Director of Biology, the Head of Preclinical Oncology will manage multiple projects spanning various stages of the drug discovery continuum as part of a collaboration to develop drugs directed against novel targets. The successful candidate will be required to:

  • Manage the overall collaboration, and direct the projects, to meet development timelines and milestones.
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary research efforts; internally at Argenta, with project collaborators, and with multiple in vivo and external translational medicine contract research establishments.
  • Direct the development, and implementation, of in vitro and in vivo pharmacology and pharmacodynamic assays for novel oncology targets.
  • Supervise the development of biomarker assays, as indicators of efficacy and for translational medicine studies to select responders in a clinical setting.
  • Prepare reports and give presentations internally and at project meetings with other collaborators.
  • Represent the company to discuss oncology capabilities as part of a team aimed at identifying new oncology business opportunities for the company

The candidate should have a Ph.D. and 8 to 10 years experience in industry or in industry and academia, which includes management of people and working within multidisciplinary teams. Previous experience in the field of oncology translational medicine, biomarker discovery, and oncology drug discovery is essential. Candidates should be familiar with various genomic profiling technologies, systems biology, immuno-assays, qRT-PCR, DNA sequencing, cell culture, and other basic molecular and cell biology skills. Successful candidates will have the ability to multitask and drive projects, working across multiple disciplines in a matrix organisation. Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to clearly communicate scientific objectives and project results are required.


Medicinal and Synthetic Chemists

We have several temporary contract vacancies for self-motivated, experienced medicinal chemists with previous relevant industrial experience.

You will be qualified to degree or PhD level, with a strong background in synthetic organic chemistry/medicinal chemistry and be keen to apply your expertise to drug discovery. An enthusiastic and effective communicator capable of working as part of a team, possessing the flexibility required to work in a dynamic environment, contributing to the department's continued success is also important. You must have the right to work for any company in the UK.
